The author of The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo is setting the record straight. She's not!
Taylor Jenkins Reid, author of the 2017 novel The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, has come out as bisexual. The novelist, who is married to a man, also discussed how often she is "[dismissed] as a straight woman."

Reid opened up about her sexuality in a recent interview that chronicled the author's journey to superstardom and her marriage to Alex Jenkins Reid.
"I am very private. "So, at first, I just sort of let people assume what they were going to assume." Reid told Time magazine. "It has been hard at times to see people dismiss me as a straight woman, but I also didn't tell them the whole story."
Now, Reid wants to set the record straight and emphasize her bisexuality.
"My attraction to women is a room in the house that is my identity — Alex [husband] understood this book was about me spending time in that room," the author recalled. "He was so excited for me, like, 'What a great way for you to express this side of you.' And he helped me get the book to be as romantic and beautiful as it could be."
As a teenager, Reid expressed her queer self in different ways.
The author explained, "I got hit pretty quickly with, 'Why can't you dress more like a girl? Why don't you do your nails? Why do you talk that way? Can't you be a little bit quieter?' I started to get people who would say, 'Oh, I get why you dress like a boy — you're gay.'"
Reid's 2017 novel, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, is being adapted into a movie for Netflix. Though it's been a pretty long wait for that live-action adaptation, TheWrap reported in 2023 that Leslye Headland (Russian Doll showrunner) has been tapped to direct the film.
Taylor Jenkins Reid's upcoming novel, Atmosphere, is scheduled to be released on June 3 and is currently available for pre-orders.
