Musician Lorde attended the 2025 Met Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, celebrating the theme "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style." After the red carpet, Lorde had a brief interview with Emma Chamberlain in which she discussed her Met Gala look and confirmed recent reports regarding her gender identity.
After crediting Thom Browne for her 2025 Met Gala look, Lorde said, "I just love the open back. It really represents where I'm at, gender-wise. I love it. I feel like a man and a woman, you know?"
Regarding the look, Lorde discussed a few details and hinted at its genesis.
The pop star explained, "This is custom Thom Brown, [and] this is my creation. It's something of an Easter egg… [But] more will be revealed."
"It's a take on the cummerbund," Lorde concluded. "Thom Browne did all the deconstructing tailoring."
Out previously reported on casual statements shared by Lorde pertaining to gender identity — connecting the dots between the singer's "Girl, so confusing" remix with Charli XCX, "Kāhore He Manu E" collab with Marlon Williams, quotes pertaining to her upcoming album titled Virgin, and recent statements from a conversation with artist Martine Syms published on Document Journal.
The singer has since clarified for anyone still wondering — or outright questioning — what she meant.
Lorde's new album, Virgin, is scheduled for release on June 27. The singer's fourth studio album is now available for pre-saves on all music streaming platforms and preorders of physical and digital copies.
