The 2025 awards season is in full swing, with the nominations for the 82nd Golden Globe Awards being announced this Monday, December 9.
There are plenty of great LGBTQ+ nominations, including a record 10 noms for the trans musical Emilia Pérez (including star Karla Sofía Gascón becoming the first trans woman nominated for a film acting award at the Golden Globes).
Other queer films and shows like Wicked, Hacks, Challengers, Baby Reindeer, Ripley, Queer, and True Detective: Night Country got several noms, but still, some of our favorites were shut out.
Check out seven of the most egregious snubs at the 2025 Golden Globes.
1. Justice Smith, Best Actor, 'I Saw the TV Glow'
I Saw the TV Glow was hands down one of the best films of the year, and after it picked up six Independent Spirit Award nominations and three Gotham Award nominations (including noms for Smith in both), we were hoping it would break into the bigger awards. Unfortunately, Justice Smith, who wowed us playing a trapped man named Owen through four decades of life and already has several noms this Awards Season, was left out here.
2. Brigette Lundy-Paine, Best Supporting Actor/Actress, 'I Saw the TV Glow'
One more for I Saw the TV Glow. Brigette Lundy-Paine, who plays Owen's best friend Maddie, and once again has picked up several nominations for their performance. It's possible that they were snubbed because of gendered acting categories at the Globes; Lundy-Paine is nonbinary and both the Gotham and Independent Spirit Awards have gender neutral acting categories.
3. Jane Schoenbrun, Best Screenplay, 'I Saw the TV Glow'
Again, we can't overstate how much we love this movie. Writer/director Jane Schoenbrun earned a Best Director nom at the Gotham Awards, and picked up noms for Best Director, Best Screenplay, and Best Feature at the Independent Spirit Awards for their deeply personal and introspective look at being trans. Unfortunately, they weren't nominated here.
4. 'Harper and Will Go West,' Best Song, 'Will & Harper'
This delightful and heartwarming song will bring a tear to your eye – but is still jazzy and fun! Will Ferrell and Harper Steele's SNL friend Kristin Wiig nailed it when she was tasked with making a theme song to one of the best documentaries of the year.
5. Katy O'Brian, Best Supporting Actress, 'Love Lies Bleeding'
Katy O'Brian is another person nominated for Gotham and Independent Spirit Awards that we hoped to see here. In the brutal lesbian thriller Love Lies Bleeding, she plays a troubled female bodybuilder, and it's one of the most exciting performances all year.
6. Tom Hollander, Best TV Movie/Limited Series Actor, 'Feud: Capote vs. The Swans'
Four out actors were nominated for Emmys in the Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series this year: Andrew Scott for Ripley, Richard Gadd for Baby Reindeer, Matt Bomer for Fellow Travelers, and Tom Hollander for Feud: Capote vs. The Swans. Bomer was nominated for a Golden Globe last year, and Gadd and Scott are nominated this year, so that means Tom Hollander is the only one left out.
7. Nava Mau, Best TV Supporting Actress, 'Baby Reindeer'
Speaking of Baby Reindeer, trans actress Nava Mau rightfully earned an Emmy nomination for her role in the show, but was snubbed at the Golden Globes.
