Charli XCX Opens Up About What She Misses Most About SOPHIE

We all miss SOPHIE, but for some, the heartbreak is more personal.

Pop star Charli XCX who collaborated with super producer SOPHIE several times in her career was recently remembering the late musician when she said SOPHIE changed her life in an interview with Zane Lowe for Apple Music.

"She changed my life, you know? And she changed all of our lives," the singer said. "Not just because of her music, which obviously is so incredible, but because of the person that she was as a person. She championed us, she has this incredible energy."

"When she wants to converse with you or have a moment with you, it's so special because she's so inspiring," she added. She closed out by saying that she's never met anyone else like SOPHIE and doubts she ever will.

SOPHIE, one of the most innovative producers in music over the last decade, had worked with Charli XCX on several songs, including "Roll with Me," "Lipgloss," "After the Afterparty," "Out of My Head," "No Angel," "Girls Night Out," and "Paradise," "Trophy," "Secret (Shh)," and "Vroom Vroom" from the Vroom Vroom EP.

In the interview, Charli detailed how SOPHIE was more than just a producer to her, saying she was one of her "biggest champions."

"SOPHIE was always pushing me to not record with autotune, which I think people would find quite interesting. She was always like, 'Just sing with your voice, you sound great. Let's do this like that.'" the singer said. "SOPHIE was just a champion of people that she believed in."

"And no matter what level you were as an artist, if you were a big artist or if you were her friend who was making music with her in her studio and no one else heard any of the songs at all, she believed in those people," Charli XCX continued. "She thinks people are stars. And when she thinks you're a star, she's not going to let you do yourself an injustice by not going for it."

The Grammy-nominated, Scottish producer and trans pioneer left an indelible mark on the music scene before she tragically died at the age of 34 early last year when she fell off a balcony while trying to take a picture of the full moon. She left behind an unforgettable legacy with her music and changed many lives. Thanks to artists like Charli XCX, she'll never be forgotten.
